TOWNLANDS

Post by MYRIAM SCOTT »

Trying to get an idea of Cavan Townland in relation to Mohill how far etc. Also a place called Eslin, I know there was a school there. Is Eslin another Townland or a place in the Townland of Cavan? My g.g.grandparents taught at the Eslin school 1860's and were living in Main St. Mohill when 1901 census was taken. I believe they leased a property in Cavan, I believe this to be Cavan Townland. Any help appreciated.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't know what is meant
by a "townland". I've been checking this site
as my children's father's family came from the parish of Mohill
in COunty Leitrim. When I checked Leitrim
I found all these townlands. Would someone please tell me what is meant by this designation?
Many thanks.

My father's family (cousins) lived in Mohill during your time in question. Their names were Finnigans.
