Does anyone know if the Elphin Diocesan Census of 1749 has been microfilmed by the Church of LDS? If available, I'd appreciate getting film numbers for the parishes of Oran and Kilmeane. Thanks. Pete Dorsey

Pete Dorsey
Don't know about the census records but I'm researching the Dorsey's of Roscommon. Patrick and James Dorsey, emigrated with their mother Catherine Corbett Clogher and stepfather Thomas Murray to Mass. USA in the mid 1880's from Roscommon. Do you have any information on this line
Thanks,
Kathleen
Dorseys from Roscommon
Kathleen, Nice to find someone who is also researching Dorseys from Roscommon. Let me sketch out briefly what I know. My great great grandfather
was born at a place in Co. Roscommon called
"Lisinistke" which is close to the spelling of Lissanisky or Lisaniskea,
the name of townlands in both Oran and Kilmeane Parishes My cousin and I are trying to figure out which one. Do you know where in Roscommon your Dorsey ancestors came from?
Patrick emigrated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland (Cecil Co,) in 1851. There he joined his sister Catherine (who married a man named Dignan) and his brother John and his wife Mary (nee Connors or Conness). Patrick married a woman named Honora Sheahan and they had 13 children.
John and his wife later moved to Parkersburg, WV. Patrick's younger brother Dennis lived between Washington D.C. and Baltimore. He had two other brothers James and Michael, who may have died young or stayed in Ireland. Patrick's
parents were James Dorsey and Margaret (nee Rourke). You probably know that the name Dorsey may have been spelled Darcy, Dorcey or something similar in Ireland. It's interesting that the names Patrick and James seem to be recycled in our family line. Perhaps this suggests a link. I would like to compare notes. My e-mail is dorsey@msmary.edu
