REYNOLDS, Co. Leitrim

Post by Jill Taylor »

My g-grandfather, James F. REYNOLDS was born in Co. Leitrim Aug. 18, 1856. His parents were Francis H. REYNOLDS b. 1822 and Anne MCGOVERN b. 1826. Francis' parents were James and Rebecca (CHAMBERS) REYNOLDS, Anne's parents were _____MCGOVERN and Winnie GLANCY. They arrived in the US, New York on Sept. 6, 1869. Traveling with them were: Patrick REYNOLDS (Ithink Francis' brother), Francis age 17, Ann age 15, JAMES (my g-grandfather) age 12, Kate age 10 and John age 8. James F. REYNOLDS married in Brookline, MA a Catherine Elizabeth REYNOLDS from Co. Cavan, she being born Feb. 2, 1858, parents were William Thomas REYNOLDS and Bridget SMITH. As you can see, I've done a lot of research, but now need help from the other side of the Atlantic. I would appreciate any information I could get. Siblings, parishes, baronies, addresses...distant cousins!!!

My great grandmother, Catherine Kilkenny Monahan had a brother named Francis Kilkenny. Francis married a Mary Gilfillian of Doogrsa in the parish of Aughavsas on Feb. 20, 1871. In turn they had nine children, including a daughter named Margaret Jane, born Feb. 11, 1886. She married a John J. Reynolds of Dromerkanae, Aughavas. They had nine children, including sons named Peter and John J. Reynolds. I suspect most, if not all, of these children have since died. I suspect though that there progeny remain in the area as I am told that my great grandfather's farm is now owned by members of the Reynolds family. If you think there is a connection between the two Reynolds families, please contact me. Thanks.
Dominic Monahan
4004 Shasta View
Eugene, OR 97405
My gggrangfather Philip McGovern, b.2 Jun 1808, Sweetwood, Killarga, Co.Leitrim, his mother was Anne Palmer, b. 9 Mar 1780, md. to James McGovern, but was the daughter of William Palmer, and granddaughter of John Reynolds. That is all I know thus far.
