My grandfather's sister, while doing research in Ireland on the Mulyck family tree, came across information that the name was originally "O'Mallyck". This information was also supported by my great-grandfather who often spoke of how the surname was changed when the first immigrants came from Ireland via Ellis Island. My great-aunt learned that it was often customary that the immigrant surnames were altered at Ellis Island in an attempt to "Americanize" the names. With respect to the Mulyck name, the "O" and one of the "l"s was dropped. My great-aunt also discovered that in the records of Ellis Island that whomever the scribe was when the original family passed through, left the top of the "a" open so as to appear as a "u". Thus, through all of the records, etc., the name was transcribed over and over again as "Mulyck". <p>I hope this is of help.

If so, you are a relative of mine, and I am currently communicating with your brother. There are so few Mulycks in the US, that we are practically all related. Let me know! Colleen Moore
