CONBOY FAMILY - SLIGO

Post by Joan Conboy »

Looking for help with my husband's family from Sligo. James Conboy, b. 1829 Sligo married Sarah Smith and emigrated to Toronto, Ont. Canada in 1870 (according to 1871 census). All children born in Canada. Looking for Conboy's in Sligo area or family that came to Canada. Family rumour was that three Conboy families emigrated to Canada at the same time. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks for your welcome note. I really don't think there is a connection here. As far as I know, our James Conboy settled in the Toronto, Ontario area. I do not know, at this point, who his parents or siblings were. They could all be related somewhere along the line but it doesn't appear that way at the moment.
: :"My" Conboys emigrated from County Leitrim in 1836 but do know of a family including a James Conboy who emigrated from Sligo and ended up in Huron County, Michigan--could have come by way of Canada. if there is a chance this could be your family let me know and I'll find out more information.
Dear Jim, Thank you for the note back, I have to admit that we are most likely not related since my Grandfather Emmigrated around the turn of the century to Western Canada. One more bit of information that might be pertinent, my Grandfather's family was Protestant, as are my remaining relatives in Co. Sligo. It is possible that we could have ties farther back if that fact is common between us. Doug Conboy.
