I am researching the Crynes family roots. I am a bit frustrated because I can not find many leads. I do know that my husband's great great grandfather was named John Cryan/Crynes and that he was a coal miner in Durham, England. He was born CA 1843 in Ireland and married CA 1858 to a Bridget "Maylia"? They left England via Liverpool in 1893 and came to the US. The only place I can find any mention of the Cryan name is here. Can anyone help me?

Can anyone help me?

Hi, have you looked at the microfiched records and the computes records at the LSD (Mormon) Family History Centers? They have filmed thousands upon thousands of Irish births, marriages, and their Family History Centers are open to the general public. There computer records are up-to-date and have volunteers to assist you. Also, there is a huge database on Cryan surname compiled by Kevin Cryan, Dublin, IR, e-mail 949971455@tolka.dcu.ie
You will need to do more detective work first, and get more information from USA records. Interview your old relatives, see if you can come up with a county in Ireland. What does you CA refer to? Catholic? Kevin's address is 44 St. Columba's Rise, Swords, Co. Dublin, Ireland. Home Number 01 8403745, I understand he has been in touch with over 600 Cryan families worldwide, and he has extracted a list of Cryan deaths 1864-1983 from the General Register Office.
Have you found your relatives on English or USA censuses? They, too, are microfilmed and are available through the Mormon Family History Centers. He may have come into the USA from Liverpool though Canada, as mine did; if so, he can be found on St. Albans Vermont Canada/US border crossing records that are soundexed and found at the LDS FHC. The records cover the entire USA/Canada border, not just Vermont as the name seems to imply. The more information you can come up with from relatives, the better. My cousins supplied with most of what I know about my Irish to England to USA relatives. I don't have any Cryan's in my family, and am not Mormon either, just wanted to give you some ideas. Jean
