Any info on McDonnel name of Ireland or Scotland. Could also be spelled Macdonnaught. May have been living on the border of Scotland & Ireland. Supposedly all people with spelling of McDonnel are related. Please reply on how to search.

If you would please give a bit more detail as to the McDonnell/McDonnel family you are seeking perhaps we can help. There are 3 1840's families of McDonnells I have information on. Please e-mail me direct.

Hi Maureen,
Do you find the name McDonnell is sometimes used in place of McDonald? I have a great grandmother, Ann McDonald, who married Michael Hicks around 1850 in Scranton, PA. Her maiden name is spelled both ways in baptisms of her children. I don't know where she is from in Ireland and I would like to know where yours are from. Mary

From my own research, the name is interchanged among the following forms:
McDonnell
McDonald
McDaniel
If any one is tracing any of these variations in the Lurganboy area of Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, I will gladly exchange info. (I'm back to 1790!!!)
Thanks.
Delia Smith
