Famine book / Whiteboys info?

Post by Laurie McDonough »

Could anyone direct me to sources of information about the
militant group called the Whiteboys, active in Co. Leitrim
during the famine (1840's). I have just acquired an excellent
book, Leitrim in the Great Famine, by Gerard MacAstasney,
when I was recently in Ireland. It mentions one Philip
O'Rielly, a leader of a Whiteboys group, who was charged with
crimes. I am in touch with the author of the book but I'm
hoping there may be other sources which mention Philip O'Rielly.
Thanks! Laurie
