I have a letter from my grandfather dated 1928 that says that his father, my ggrandfather, was born in the City of Roscommon in County Galway, Ireland. Is this erroneous or is there indeed a place in Co. Galway with a name resembling Roscommon? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Roscommon/Galway?
Re: Roscommon/Galway?
Roscommon is a County whose County town is also called Roscommon. There is no Roscommon in Galway although the counties border each other. It may be that your ancestor came from somewhere in Roscommon but on the border of Galway.
John
