I am trying to establish, as far as is possible, what areas of the USA the people of Roscommon and especially people from the area surrounding the town of Roscommon emigrated to, prinicipally during and after the Famine. From reading the bulletin board it appears to me that families and friends from a locality often, naturally, settled in the same places after emigration and it is some of these areas in the USA that I am trying to establish. Any takers?
Brian Barry

Irish to USA
Re: Irish to USA
Brian,
If you mean all of Co Roscommon then please contact me direct as we have information regarding one Parish, Kilglass Parish in the East side of Co Roscommon. If you need such information only regarding the location of Roscommon Town, then I can not be of help.
: I am trying to establish, as far as is possible, what areas of the USA the people of Roscommon and especially people from the area surrounding the town of Roscommon emigrated to, prinicipally during and after the Famine. For what it's worth, my grandparents both from Co Roscommon settled in
Philadelphia, PA. My grandfather, Michael Connell came from Carraghs
West and my grandmother, Catherine Collins came from Rabbitboro.

Re: Irish to USA
Several families from near Castlerea went to St Louis and Pike County, Missouri in the time before the US Civil War. There was even an Irish colony in Pike County. Many of these people then went to Bon Homme, Dakota Territory in 1869 and settled there. Some names are FINAN, CARROLL, COLE (might have once been COLL), MULLEAGUE, and MCCORMACK.
