I have been told (or have read somewhere) that Kilronan (now part of Roscommon) was once part of Co. Leitrim. Certainly, the old parish records for Kilronan seem to indicate that. For example, one group of records is entitled "Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim, Ireland, Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, Keadue Parish".
Does some kind soul happen to know the history of Kilronan, and is able to tell me just WHEN Kilronan came under the Jurisdiction of Roscommon (if that is, in fact, the case)?
Drumshanbo,Leitrim is across the Shannon from Kilronan. I have a fair amount of information re Kilronan, but no where have I read that it was once part of Leitrim. But perhaps hundreds of years ago, it was. Siobhan
