Any John McMorrows in your line. Peter was supposedly born in 1857, in St. Louis. Any information would be appreciated
The descendants of John are still on the same land as formerly, in Drumcliff parish Co. Sligo, as are my own third cousins who neighbour them on 'our' land. Seán is the current form of the Christian name now in use by the family descendant from John Mc Morrey. I have a third cousin of name Seán also, but it is not a name that ran with our line. The names that ran with us in the mid-to-late 1700s were :
Darby (> Dermot > Jeremiah, reverted now to > Dermot)
Michael, Cahal and Charlie
Presently, I have three cousins called Dermot after our uncle, Dermot.
Our Cahal settled in the 1790s at Rinn, Grange, further north in Sligo and the name John followed them, one of whom, John Mc Morrow, was best man at my grt.-grandparents mr. in Grange, 1856, Feb. 21st., Catherine Mulligan being the other witness. The last of that Grange family died out (at Lissadell) some 60 yrs ago, while there is one woman alive descendant from them.
Finally, while dealing with John, there are and were many John Mc Morrows.
Peter is a name that ran with two Mc Morrow families near Cliffoney, at Cloontibawn and Creevymore.
From Ahamlish Parish Records (townland names not given) :
Peter Mc Morrow and Elizabeth Clancy had a son Terence born 12/12/1804 and another son 1812.
Peter Mc Murray and Alice Waters had a son, Peter, born 10th. of Feb.1814.
This, Mc Murray, was a form of the same surname when found in the north west of Ireland. The process may be summarised :
Mac Muireadhaigh > Mc Murry > Mc Morry > Mc Morrow and variants of those. The more original Mc Morrey will still be heard occasionally (in Leitrim) and both it and Mc Murray are to be seen on the older grave stones, of which there aren't many left.
Of the three Christian names that you give, Peter is about the best chance to follow as the period that you are searching in, is a every populous Ireland, so to speak, and both John and Margaret are not uncommon. I hope to get back to you some time in the futere.
Slán go fóill - Good luck for now

Again, I do not know when Edward arrived in the US, although I understand that the family did come over the Mississippi from Alton, Illinois to St. Louis, so I do need to go over there and dig up some information. Please keep in touch - maybe somehow I can find my John & Margaret McMorrow.
