my great-grandfather cornelius was born in ireland around 1826 and came to america sometime around 1850. he was married to bridget heffernan. i don't know whether they were married in ireland or in america. bridget came to america in 1851. i do not know where cornelius came. they settled in newark, new jersey. their son, john t. tighe is my grandfather. he married annie carlin here in america. annie carlin's parents are owen and ann (nee comisky?) they both came from ireland also. all of the records i can find here in america only say that these four people came from ireland. i am trying to find out from where they came in ireland. can anyone help. cornelius was a laborer. his son john was a policeman in newark, new jersey. also, owen carlin was a policeman in newark, new jersey. i think that they may have come from someplace around county mayo, or someplace in conacht. also, can someone please tell me from where the majority of the tighe names come from in ireland. i understand that the irish spelling of tighe is tadhg. am i correct? I am putting together a family tree of the tighe family . i have all of the information on all of the tighes here in america, but i am stuck on finding where they came from in ireland. can someone help.my name and address are:julius j. spohn 328 eighth street, jersey city, nj 07302 and my phone number is 201-963-1357. thanks for your help.
Hi,
I can't tell you about the name Tighe, but Carlin is one of the surnames of the evictees from Ballykilcline, Kilglass Parish, County Roscommon. Check out the web site at www.ballykilcline.com. Read the book "The End of Hidden Ireland" by Robert Scally. A search is underway for the descendants of the Ballykilcline evictees; you can reach the search leaders from the web site if you think you may be connected. Also, a reunion is planned in Ballykilcline in August 1999. Again, info is at the web site.
Good luck
Mary Lee Dunn
: my great-grandfather cornelius was born in ireland around 1826 and came to america sometime around 1850. he was married to bridget heffernan. i don't know whether they were married in ireland or in america. bridget came to america in 1851. i do not know where cornelius came. they settled in newark, new jersey. their son, john t. tighe is my grandfather. he married annie carlin here in america. annie carlin's parents are owen and ann (nee comisky?) they both came from ireland also. all of the records i can find here in america only say that these four people came from ireland. i am trying to find out from where they came in ireland. can anyone help. cornelius was a laborer. his son john was a policeman in newark, new jersey. also, owen carlin was a policeman in newark, new jersey. i think that they may have come from someplace around county mayo, or someplace in conacht. also, can someone please tell me from where the majority of the tighe names come from in ireland. i understand that the irish spelling of tighe is tadhg. am i correct?
