CAN any kind soul give me a push in the right direction? I am trying to locate an area of Roscommon famous for its claypits. My great-grandfather James Ahern was said to have been born in such an area of the county in 1851. He died during the 'flu epidemic of 1918 in Clydebank. James married Hannah Martin of Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh (b 1861 and died as a result of the Clydebank Blitz in 1941). Their son John Joseph Ahern, my grandfather, was born somewhere in that area in 1897, I believe. He died in De La Pole Hospital, Hull in 1971. Claypits, anyone?
