The Press of Atlantic City (NJ) ran the story on Sunday, 8/2 on the front page of it's "Lifestyle"
section... Headlined "Old Irish Nighborhood Rediscovered in America" covered several columns over two pages with photos of James Cox and John Neary... The article mentioned the Ballykilcline Society web site but didn't supply the URL.

Go to related links and then to the Leitrim-Roscommon Home Page. From there you can explore the on-line Griffith's Database, now being built (only partly done right now).
You should read Robert Scally's book, The End of Hidden Ireland, which came out in 1995. It is available at large bookstores (and on-line, I'm sure).
The other powerful description of Kilglass at that time is the Famine Museum's book, The Great Irish Famine, by Stephen J. Campbell. James is my cousin, yes I'm a grandson of the infamous John Cox. I've read Scally's book and know quite abit about the Coxes but not much on the Famine was passed down through my relatives.

Re: AP Story
"The Oranage County Register" one of the two largest newspapers in Southern California has the
story Headline "The Lost Children of Ballykilcline" on Page 29 Sunday Edition Aug 16th.
Page 29 is the front page of their 2nd section titled "World". It has a 10 1/2 by 7 inch picture
of John Neary with the cows in Roscommon. Also on the same page is an article about the ramifcations of the suicide of illegal irish immigrant Liam Mason on June 13th. Both stories continue on the next page where there is a picture of Maureen McDermott Humphreys at her computer. Sorry no URL in the article.

I read your article in "The Day" paper out of New London, CT on 8-30-98. The report was 2 pages long including pictures of John Neary, Maureen McDermott Humphreys, and James Cox. The story was in the Arts & Living section and above the story in bold print was "the cutting Edge". I thought the layout was eye catching and quite interesting. I would like to contact someone in regards to the Neary's. My great grandmother Mary O'Beirne,(7-12-1872) her mother was Elizabeth Neary & I have death certificates of her family & some are from Laghtcausk, & some are from Ballykilcline. I would like to know if there were any O'Beirne's from that area. The Neary names I have are; Elizabeth, Thomas, Francis, & Anne, there may be more family, but these are the death certificates I have acquired.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Sharon Dutra
My great grandparents came from Carrick on Shannon, Roscommon. They were called Thomas and Mary Regan Brennan. I posted my first letter today here on this site as you probably have seen. I, too, am looking to find the remaining Brennans in Carrick on Shannnon. My family went to visit them in 1960s from New Haven Conn. I want to find them again and regain contact. This is my first attempt at searching for them and my second week with a computer. Would love to here from you.
