I'm not sure exactly who or how to ask this, but here goes..... My father read the AP article over the summer, and asked me to check it out when I got back to school and had Internet access. My grandfather's name was James Hanley. James also had several (at least 2) brothers, and the entire family is buried in a small cemetery in Coudersport, PA. (I believe the brothers died before having any children.) Unfortunately, I do not know the names of my great-grandparents or much family history beyond that small burial plot.
My father has neither sons or brothers, so he is the last to bear the surname of "Hanley" in his immediate family. I would love to surprise by presenting him with a more complete geneology sometime in the future, and I would appreciate any help you might have.
Thanks again.
Re: Hanleys from Ballykilcline
Hi, I'm looking for traces of Margaret Hanely, born about 1830. She married a Michael Giblin and had a son John, 1850 Lockport NY> John emmigrated to Canada at 19 apparently without any family. Any info appreciated. Thanks, Bernadette

Re: Hanleys from Ballykilcline
Thanks for the advice.... I started out at the Ballykilcline homepage, but I don't know enough about my family's history and timeline to determine anything yet. I am going to talk to my father soon, and ask him for more info.!! I think he said there was a Catherine and a Peter Hanley in the same graveyard - that was why the article caught his eye this summer.
James, my grandfather, died in the early 1970s (?), so he probably wasn't one of the original immigrants. He was, however, a staunch Catholic with dark hair and a powerful, headstrong personality.....I believe those are all traits attributed to the Ballykilcline Hanleys?!?!?
