Rileys & Colgans, Kilglass Parish

Post by Mary Lee Dunn »

I'm searching for the descendants of Michael Riley and his wife Ann Colgan who lived in Kilglass Parish in the 1820s, perhaps in Ballyfeeny. They had at least 7 children who came to America in the late 1840s and settled in Rhode Island and Connecticut. Their names were:
* John, who married Catherine McNally of Lattin, southern County Monaghan, in Providence, RI in 1853
€ Bridget, who married James O'Reilly of Kiltrustan, Roscommon, probably before leaving Ireland
€ Mary, who married James Henry, probably from Bumlin Parish, Roscommon, in Providence, RI
€ Ann, who married Peter Featherstone of Dooslattagh, Kilglass, in Providence in 1850; later Ann
married Frank Henry (who may be James Henry's brother)
€ Hugh, who married Ann Sweeny in Rhode Island
€ Michael, who married Catherine Elwood whose family came from Roscommon, and
€ Alice, who married Frank Smith in Connecticut.
It's possible these 7 immigrants left a brother named Thomas in Kilglass. All but 1 of the Rileys named a son Thomas. The immigrants had more than 50 children in America.
Can anyone help me connect them with Riley and Colgan families in Kilglass in the early 1800s or later? Are they connected with the Rileys and Colgans from Ballykilcline?
Thanks for your help.
Mary Lee Dunn
