I am trying to find any information about my husband's gg grandfather Patsy ar Patrick Clyne or Cline. he married Betsy Butler around 1845 and had 2 children, Johnny Clyne and Jimmy Clyne. All we know is that the Clyne clan settled near Rooskey and were disposessed from their lands as part of the Cromwellian terror. Would greatly appreciate any information. Jean Clyne

Jean Clyne
Hi, Jean,
Rooskey is on the Shannon in Kilglass Parish near Strokestown. It also is very near Ballykilcline, which means "home of the Clines." If you don't know the Ballykilcline story, see the web site at www.ballykilcline.com and read Robert Scally's book, The End of Hidden Ireland. There is a society organized to study the Ballykilcline story and family histories.
There was a Patrick Cline and wife, with two children under 14 years of age, living in Ballykilcline in 1749. See the Synge Census on the Ballykilcline site.
Further, I have part of the Tithe Applotment Book records for Kilglass Parish (late 1820s and early 1830s). I went through those records looking for Patrick Clines. I found several as follows:
Townland of Tully:
Pat Cline (name listed twice)
Thomas Cline
Townland of Knockhall
Pat Cline
Thomas Cline
Townland of Caragins
Pat Cline (name listed twice)
Townland of Dowane
Edward Cline
Hugh Cline
James Cline
Pat Cline
These should give you some leads. I would very much like to hear more about your family history. Please get in touch with me.
Merry Christmas!
Mary Lee Dunn
The Ballykilcline Society
