Happy New Year, All.
A good time to re-post, since it's been a while.
I am looking for Rileys (Reilly, O'Reilly) and Colligans (Colgans) from Kilglass Parish, Co. Roscommon. My seven immigrant Riley siblings came to Rhode Island before 1850. They were children of Michael Riley and Ann Colligan Riley and were born in the 1820s and 1830s. Their names were John (my gggrandfather), Bridget, Mary, Ann, Hugh, Michael, and Alice. They lived the rest of their lives in RI (Providence, Burrillville, Warwick) and eastern Connecticut (Hampton, Danielson, Brooklyn, and Willimantic).
The siblings intermarried with Roscommon people of these surnames: Featherstone (of Dooslattagh), Elwood, Sweeney, Henry, O'Reilly (Kiltrustan), Smith. Other connections: Dockerys in Legan, Foley in Killeegan, both Kilglass townlands. Second generation marriage in my line between a Riley and an O'Beirne whose parents (John and Bridget Kenny O'Beirne) came from Elphin. My Riley-Colligan surnames also raise the possibility of a Ballykilcline connection.
There was some still unspecified link between my Rileys and the three sons of Luke and Elizabeth McDermott Reilly of Kilglass. Those 3 sons (James, John, Thomas, all born 1840s) also immigrated to RI and CT. One of the sons, Thomas, was married to Ann Colligan and lived in Hampton, CT.
Many of the Rileys in Providence were part of the cathedral parish and St. Theresa's. A daughter of John Riley became a nun and helped found St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT.
All inquiries and suggestions welcomed. I have plenty of info to share. I would especially like to communicate with anyone who has a Thomas or Hugh Riley in a line from Kilglass. I know there were several Hugh Rileys in Kilglass in the 1600s and 1700s. My focus is on families from Dooslattagh, Legan, Ballyfeeny, Knockhall and that part of the parish.
Thank you.
Mary Lee Dunn
