Nerheny/Nerney of Corboghil,Cloonfinlough

Post by Mary Kathleen McKay »

Am looking for John Nerheny of Corboghil who married Honoria Nally. Both born about 1840. Raised their family - Mary, Delia(Bridgie), Catherine, John, Dennis and Patrick (twins), Ann, Francis, Margaret and Elizabeth in Corboghil. I believe all the children eventually immigrated to U.S. They appear in the 1901 census in Corboghil - the only Nerney family. Are they related to the Nerneys of Doughil and Killavackan? Also, what Catholic church would they have attended and where would they be buried? Is there a cemetary in Corboghil? Thanks.

Thanks.
My great, great grandparents, John and Catherine McDonnell McCormick lived in Corboghil in the early 1860s and then emigrated to Bolton, Lancashire Co., England. Their son Patrick McCormick and his wife Catherine Finneran McCormick, also from the Strokestown area, finally settled in Albany, New York in the early 1880s. It is possible that John McCormick was originally from Kiltrustan and Catherine McDonnell McCormick was most likely from Cloonfinlough. They were married at the Strokestown Roman Catholic Church in 1845. Their sons Michael, James, Patrick, Thomas, John, William and Francis were born between 1851 and 1864. Marriage witnesses and baptismal sponsors found on church records include James McDonnell, Jane Conniff, Michael Carlos, and Bridget Conlon. Patrick Donnelly, also believed to be from Corboghil, was the Naturalization witness for Patrick McCormick, Patrick Finneran and Terance Riley, an in law, all in Albany, New York. Have you come across any of these names in your research? I look forward to hearing from you. I think there is a cemetery in the townland of Cloonfinlough.
