My name is Don McGovern and I am researching my great great grandmother, Mary Cullen, ba 1796 in Aghlin, Parish Oughteragh, Co. Leitrim. Mary married James McGovern of Ballinamore and had six children. The family immigrated in 1849 to NYC. Some of the family moved on to Mississippi.

Recently I have been able to contact some Cullens in Co. Leitrim that also came from Aghlin and are part of the same Cullens as my Mary. They mentioned that their Cullens were nicknamed "The Yellow Cullens". They and I don't know how the nickname came about... I know there is a river called the Yellow River that runs close by Aghlin and maybe that is where the nickname came from. Anyone else ever heard of "The Yellow Cullens"?

Don McGovern
Edmond, Oklahoma
