I am interested in the Irish genealogy of the Sampey family
origin that eventually settled in Alabama in the 1820s. The
founder of the Alabama Sampeys was John Sampey from Belfast,
County Antrim, Ireland; born 20 Apr 1801. I've collected
most information about the American side but lack information
about the original Irish side. I believe that the Sampeys in
Roscommon are key since John Sampey's father was probably
Francis Sampey and married Nancy Walker. History has it that the
Sampeys came to Ireland from France (who knows when) and were
Sampier at that time.
So -- anyone know anything about this?
Thanks
Patrick B. Sampey
