Loughglynn, Lisacul area

Anyone have any knowledge of the history of the above areas? Looking for churches, cemeteries and written info on the parishes.

There is a RC church at Loughglynn which has a small cemetery the locals told me that most burials are at the nearby Cultyboe cemetery - which I have been toold (walking distance from Loughglynn) it isn't very big.
Any names in particular you are looking for?

Check the above site for the 2000 publication titled "History of the Diocese of Elphin" by Fr. Francis Beirne. It gives the history of the parish, plus church photos.

Remember that a large number of Loughglynn Catholic records are listed in the readily available LDS British Isles Vital Records Index.

All except one Loughglynn Catholic parish townland is in Tibohine Civil parish.

I visited there in March last year... stopped at the church in Loughglynn, and saw only the gravestones next to the church - mostly priests as I recall.

Visited the chapel at Gortaganny? There was a graveyard nearby. Is Cultyboe either of those?

My people were Lowry.. and most left during or after the famine for Selby Yorkshire. It would be hard to pick them out of all the Lowry names.

Austin Lowry, son of John, who was deceased at this time married Catherine Morris in 1871 in Selby. Believe her father John was from the same area in Roscommon. Other names that surround them in Selby were Flanagan, Waldron, Higgins.

I would like to learn more history of the area.
