old Captain Fallon from Kiltrustan / Elphin / Stokestown

Post by Paul Fallon »

I'm hoping that some people from around Kiltrustan are reading this message.
Do you remember Michael Fallon, the 'old captain'? He died in the fifties. Only had one leg. He was a District Councillor in Kiltrustan and had been a captain in the Volunteers. He had the old quarry in the land opposite the old Kiltrustan school. Was a 'mighty man' by all accounts. Had a military funeral in the old Kiltrustan graveyard (now disused). He had two sons, Bernie Joseph Fallon (or Brian) and Michael who sold the land and left the country for England.
Captain Michael Fallon had been active as a volunteer in Cork and Kerry. His Father was, I think, Owen (or Eugene). Stories have it he and a brother of his left in something of a hurry pursued by black & tans. They burned Cregga Hill on the way out.
Anything memories at all would be much appreciated.
Paul Fallon
