Quinn, Ballaghaderreen
I am trying to get in touch with the descendants of the following Quinn family.
I am searching for Quinns in America who are descendants of Frank (Francis) Quinn who was a tailor by trade in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, Ireland and had a shop there
in Main Street. He was born in 1878. He also had a brother Thomas Quinn, who was also a tailor. Thomas Quinn was born in 1884.
Frank Quinn married Mary Callaghan in 1901. They had 4 children (in Ireland) who did not marry in Co. Roscommon, Ireland.
The 4 children of Frank and Mary Quinn nee Callaghan, all born in Ballaghaderreen
were:-
Thomas, born February 1902
Margaret, born May 1905
Dermot, born June 1906
John, born June 1908.
Mary Callaghan came from the following family in Ballaghaderreen:-
John Callaghan. Father. Shopkeeper. b. 1849
Bridget ? Wife. b. 1865
Mary. Child. b. 1882 (This is Frank Quinn's wife, Mary Callaghan)
Annie. Child. b. 1888
Catherine. Child. b. 1898
Local knowledge informs me that they think that the whole family went to America. I have found through Ellis Island records an entry into the USA of a Frank Quinn on October
30, 1920 which corresponds to the age and marital status of Frank Quinn. Also a similar entry on August 01, 1921 with the Last Place of Residence as Ballaghaderin(sic), Ireland which corresponds to age and marital status (single) to Thomas Quinn
(born 1905).
From other local information I have also been informed that a few years ago some Quinns from America were in Ballaghaderreen inquiring about this Frank Quinn. They spoke to
Catherine Sharkey nee Quinn in Ballaghaderreen. Catherine Sharkey's father was a first cousin of Frank Quinn. I have been informed that one of the visiting Quinns (Dermot) was a
famous hairdresser whereby the name “The House of London” had been mentioned in connection with Dermot.
