McGreevy/McGreevey Family, Ballyformoyle

Post by SusanG »

I am searching for further information on the following McGreevy/McGreevey family:

"BRIDGET, JANE, and CATHERINE McGREEVEY, from Ballyformoyle, parish of Ardcarn, county Roscommon. Bridget was married to a man named Malone, and he died in Ireland; Catherine was married in New Orleans to a man named Patrick McGloughlin. They came to this country about 20 years ago (1850 +/-); when last heard from, 15 years ago (1855 +/-), they were in New Orleans. Information of them will be received by their sister, Mary McGreevy, or niece, Catherine McDermott, Union Springs, Cayuga county, N. Y." From 4/1870 Boston Pilot notice.

Mary McGreevy (abt. 1813, Ireland -1893, Union Springs, Cayuga Co., NY) is my ancestor. She married James Brennan, probably in the area mentioned above in Ireland, and had three children that I know of: 1) Catherine, above, (abt. 1840, Ireland - 6/12/1900, Union Springs, NY) married Michael McDermott in Ireland. They were living in Union Springs at the time of the 1860 census. 2) James E. (11/11/1846, Co. Roscommon - 10/16/1904, Union Springs, NY), arrived in the U.S. about 1865, married Mary Quinn in NY about 1868. 3) Ann (abt. 11/1840, Ireland - 1909, Union Springs, NY) married a Laddon, Leyden, Leydon in Ireland. Assumed that he died in Ireland as she arrived in the U.S. before 1870 with daughter Jane/Jennie. Any help with this group would be appreciated! Thank you.
