Murty Garrahan/Garrahans Around the world

I think my Christopher Garrahan (B.abt 1828) ancestor's parents were Murty Garrahan and Margaret Lawlor. We always thought Christopher came from Roscommon. All I know is that a Murty Garrahan was in the Longford Militia Muster in 1814. If anyone has any info on Murty, Margaret and Christopher, I?d love to know.

Garahan Nalla is in Himachal India. Look it up; sounds like a road trip. I have no idea how the place got its name. I was thinking it may be from some missionary work by one of the Garrahan priests (I'm named after one!).

Not to be outdone, the Isle of Man has plenty of evidence of Garrahan wandering. There is a Garraghan/Garrahan Mountain (now called Carraghan, erroneously of course) on the Isle of Man, at the end of the Baldwin Reservoir. There are stories of a witch by the mountain. I also came across some Indian/Hindu/otrher definition of Garahan as complaining or blaming. Whatever.

There is a Garraghan Drive in Kingston NY. That?s one of two places I know of where something with our name still has our people there.

The most distinguished place with our name is The Garrahan Hospital is Buenos Aries, Argentina. It is THE pediatric hospital in South America. Besides being humbled by their success, I am a little prouder of the Garrahan doctors ( father and son, I believe) since they spell the name my way.

Another Argentinian was Tom Garrahan who wrote memoirs which are know translated into English. For the sake of the name, I must get the Edmundo Murray book.
