Leitrim born applying for relief in Lanark SCOTLAND

Post by redted »

I have an old index list of persons applying for Poor relief, (sometimes referred to as paupers) in the county of Lanark, including Glasgow.

The actual poor relief records are held at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.

They can be a good source of history and give an insight into living conditions of the time. Dates covered are 1851-1900, with individual birth dates from 1780.

Feel free to drop me a P.M. and I can check the index.

There are 1,734 names on the index with a Leitrim birth, there is also more than 36,000 names of Irish descent with no county given as a birthplace.

Thought i would give this a 'bump' if you have anyone who may have headed from Leitrim across to Glasgow/Lanark they may have applied for relief in Scotland.

Thanks RT
Unfortunately none of these can, as yet!, be fitted anywhere into my tree.
