I've just started to track down my grandfather who originated from (according to family lore) Hill Street in county Roscommon. Many of the things that my wife and I have tracked down so far have had conflicting dates, and so it's been hard to pin point many details. My next best move would probably be to hear from someone in/around Hill Street to find out if there are any more Clancy's in that area.
Our second best bet might be to hear from anyone who might be familiar with the Clancy's from Hill Street, and or my grandmother who came from Galway (see next paragraph).
My grandfather's given name was Michael, and he most likely came to the United States between the mid 1890's, and 1905. When he arrived in the U.S. he eventually met, and married Mary Donelon, from Dunmore county Galway. Tracking her has been difficult as well, conflicting dates, and too many people named Mary Donelon. I always thought that Donelon was a somewhat uncommon name. I obviously thought wrong. Both
grandparents married in Elizabeth NJ (I need to confirm this later), I believe that the ceremony was held in Sacret Heart church. They were part of a large immigrant community that lived in a section of Elizabeth called Kerry Head (sometimes spelled Kereigh Head, but rarely).
I'd be thankful for any clues about either of these people.
Thanks in advance for your time, and help.
Mike
