My great grandfather was James Kilday. I believe he came from Arigna in Roscommon. He was born in 1840 and worked as a miner. I can't trace him back any further. Anyone have any information?

James Kilday, Arigna, Roscommon
Re: James Kilday, Arigna, Roscommon
Michael,
My name is Ed Gallagher. I live in Yorba Linda, CA, USA. It appears that
we may have the same Great Grandfather. My Grandfather was one of
Michael Kilday's children, Patrick Kilday. I just recently discovered
that the family name was Kilday. When he came to the US it was changed
to Gilday and that is all I ever knew it as. I only discovered the
Kilday spelling from his death certificate. Which of James's children
are you descended from?
Patrick apparently followed John O'neill over to the US and became
involved in the miner's union. He eventually became President of the
local and worked for President Woodrow Wilson as a mediator for some of
the mine strikes here in the US. If I can be of any assistance from this
end let me know. You are more than welcome to anything I find. I am just
delighted to have found your message and discovered that the family came
from Roscommon. I never knew anything past the Scotland info.
Let me know if I might have anything of interest to you.

Ed Gallagher
