Hi, I am looking for information on Patrick Flaherty, married to Catherine ?. Three known children, Patrick J., Ann Mary and Margaret W., all born c. 1850. Emigrated to USA. Some record indicate Roscommon as birthplace, and one record in particular indicates Cloonshee. Any ideas, or known relatives? I have seen Patrick in the 1901 Census. Not sure where else to start, if family stayed back or all came over. Any help greatly appreciated. Michele makx2@metrocast.net

FLAHERTY, Patrick
Re: FLAHERTY, Patrick
Hi,
My great-grandmother's name was Honora (Honor) Flaherty born about 1840. Her father's name was Patrick Flaherty and her mother was Bridget Bligh. She was baptized in Ballinlough RC Church and her townland is listed as Cashel. When I got my report from the Roscommon Heritage Center, they said there was another Patrick Flaherty and they lived in Cloonalough. But I think his wife's name was Mary Mylott. I only know the name of one of my g-grandmothers siblings and that was Martin. They could be cousins to your Patrick.
Jeanne

Re: FLAHERTY, Patrick
Hi Jeanne,
I think we have spoken in the past. I remember your great grandmothers name, Honora.
I have searched before and been away for a while and am looking more eagerly once again.
I recently learned of another sibling born to Patrick and Catherine, that of Patrick J. and have connected with a cousin from that line.
I suspect I should contact the Roscommon Heritage Center, I haven't gone down that road yet. I am desiring to find the records of baptism and such. I am not sure if the parents came to the states, but I think so, I need to document it further. I found a Patrick and Catherine living in the same town as the children, so I think they came, but I can't get their death records, they are no where to be found! That would certainly shed some more light.
I wonder if that Patrick Flaherty who lived in Cloonalough in a relative? I had a lookup graciously done a while back on the Griffith's Valuation CD, it showed a John living in Cloonshee. I think it is very highly likely that this is Patrick's father.
I had looked at the 1901 Census and found a Martin living in Cloonshee, and I believe this is John's son. So we may have a connecetion here. I will have to research further.
Otherwise, I agree with your thought that they could be cousins to my Patrick.
Keep in touch. I don't check this bulletin board every day, feel free to email me also. Thanks!
Michele
