James O'Connor, Catherine O'Connor

Post by Teri Simonds »

Among our family papers, there is a scrap of paper with the following:
James O'Connor, died April 19, 1863
Catherine O'Connor, died May 10, 1863
Parish Kilglass, County Roscommon
I think they may have died in Co. Roscommon, but do not know for sure. I also think they are related to my great-great-grandfather, John O'Connor, who had settled in Baltimore, Maryland, and was fighting in the American Civil War by that time (age 16-18). I'm trying to find out when the O'Connor side of the family came over from Ireland.
Thanks in advance for any information!

In the 1860 Census, Baltimore, 19 ward, P. 154 lines 4-6, there apears the names for whom you are looking. James O'CONNOR (age 70, blind), Catherine O'CONNOR (age 69), and Mary O'CONNOR (age 24). They are living in the house of George O'CONNOR (age 30), Catherine (age 25) and Nelly (age 6 months). Everyone was born in Ireland except Nelly. She was born in MD.
Next door is living a Rebecca O'CONNOR(age 42) with Anna, Nelly, Louis and Rebecca all born in MD.
A few houses away are family names that I am trying to connect to the O'CONNOR side of my family. They are Patrick and Mary HIBBETTS -- and James and Ellen/Anna BOHAN/BOWEN. Do those last names appear in your list for 1860?
Steve
Conner@Compuserve.com
: Among our family papers, there is a scrap of paper with the following:
: James O'Connor, died April 19, 1863
: Catherine O'Connor, died May 10, 1863
: Parish Kilglass, County Roscommon
: I think they may have died in Co.
