My great grandfather, Michael Dolan, was born approx 1830 in the Ballinamore area. His parents were Michael Dolan and Anne Sweeney. Anne parents were John Sweeney and Nancy Moran. Presumably Michael and Anne had a large family, but I only know of my great grandfather and his brother Hugh. When they were grown, both of these moved up to the area near Aughnashelan, Altakeeran, and Gubneveagh. There were Sweeneys in that area also.
Frank Dolan

: My ancestors were born and lived in Leitrum county with names Kilkenny and Sweeney - looking for some help with these names - Sweeneys were from Ballinamore and the Kilkennys wer from the Cloone area

Back in the early 1800's they married into the McCabes of Carrigallen. At the end of that century several Sweeneys moved over to Killeshandra Co Cavan. A James owned the mill in Drumrooske. Today there are many, many Sweeney families in the Killeshandra area. Carrigallen and Ballinamore are not far from each other. Residents of Killeshandra, Carrigallen and Ballinamore move back and forth between these towns regularly. Mary

My GGGrandfather on my paternal side was Francis J. Kilenny. He was born in Aughavas (1836-1939), the son of of Patrick Kilkenny and Brigid Curran. Patrick had immigrated from Galway with his brother John and they settled in the Drumersnaughton area in the townland of Killafee. Supposedly their father was named Donal Kilkenny but he remained in Galway. Francis had at least 4 children including my GGmother Catherine Kilkenny who married Michael Monahan of Aughavas. They had at least nine children, including my Grandfather, Francis Michael Monahan, who immigrated to the U.S. together with his brothers and sisters. My grandfather and two of his brothers settled in Eastern Oregon and were later joined by one of their sisters, Mary Ann. Their other siblings remained in the Boston-Lowell Massachusetts area.
My mother Camilla Delores, was also a Kilkenny, having been born in 1914 in Fyhora, County Longford, just across the county line from Leitrim. Her father, Francis Kilkenny was born in Bunndaraugh, County Leitrim, the son of Peter Kilkenny and Mary Ann Sheridan Kilkenny. Francis was one of 11 children. (I do not have information on the siblings of Peter Kilkenny.) Peter's father was named Paul Kilkenny. Family history says that several generations of Kilkennys occupied a small farm in Bundarragh and remains in the family today.
Would be interested in any material you may find tying your Kilkenny family with mine.
