Mills/Conniffe/Lecky/Blake, Elphin Roscommon

Post by Sue »

Would be grateful for any info on our family from Roscommon. Cheeryfield & Knockhall are mentioned. My ggfather came to Vic, Aus in 1870s, but don't know what happened to his family in Ireland. Parents were George Lecky Mills & Isabella Conniffe.
Thanks in anticipation.

The record says he was born in Co. Roscommon in 1829. Scores of Kilglass people settled in that area, so he may be from Kilglass as well. Vermont cemeteries show several other Conniffs as well, though none of the 19th-Century gravestones specifies a parish or townland.
The Ballykilcline Society has just acquired transcriptions of the Kilglass cemetery gravestones from the Kilglass Restoration Committee, and passed on to us by JJ and Delores Neary. A Luke Cunniffe is buried in the new Kilglass graveyard. He lived in Tully and died in 1999 at age 82.
Good luck with your research. With relatives from Kilglass, please consider joining the Society. Web site at www.ballykilcline.com.
Mary Lee Dunn

The Ballykilcline site is fascinating - a great deal I didn't know. Happy to share what I have on Australian connection with others who are searching. Sue
